Generation and Detection of a 100-Gb/s Dual-Polarization Optical Signal Using 16-QAM CDM-OFDM

摘要: 基于码分复用-正交频分复用(CDM-OFDM)和光残留边带调制,提出并实验演示了一种直接探测的光通信系统。结果显示,在采用双边带调制时,CDM-OFDM信号相对于普通OFDM信号而言,具有更大的色散容忍度。通过采用16-QAM调制、偏振复用(PDM)以及光残留边带滤波,速率为100 Gb/s的PDM CDM-OFDM信号在标准单模光纤中成功传输了24.4 km。同时研究了CDM-OFDM信号的编码增益。仿真和实验首次证明,CDM-OFDM相对于普通OFDM调制,更适用于短距离光通信系统中。Abstract: A CDM-OFDM over fiber system based on multi-carrier code-division multiplexing (MC-CDM), optical vestigial sideband (VSB) filtering, and direct detection is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Results show that double sideband (DSB) modulated CDM-OFDM signals have a larger chromatic dispersion tolerance than conventional OFDM signals when no VSB filtering is used. By using 16-QAM modulation, polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) and optical VSB filtering, PDM CDM-OFDM signals with a data rate of 100 Gb/s are successfully transmitted through 24.4 km of standard single mode fiber (SSMF). The coding gain of the optical CDM-OFDM signals is also investigated. We show for the first time that optical CDM-OFDM is a more favorable scheme compared with optical OFDM in short reach applications.
