Synthesis and Properties of Lauryl Polyoxyethylene Ether Sulfate with Narrow Molecular Weight Distribution

  • Lauryl polyoxyethylene ether sulfate with narrow molecular weight distribution (AE2S) was synthesized by using AEO2 with narrow molecular weight distribution as the starting material and the appropriate reaction conditions were shown as follows: n(fatty alcohol ether): n(chlorosulfonic acid) =1:1.03, the reactive temperature 28℃, and the reactive time 1h. The anion active content of the product was determined and its properties including surface tension, wetting, emulsification, foam, calcium soap dispersion force, detergency and skin irritation were measured.The results showed that anion active contents of AE2S is 54.11%,the minimum surface tension is 27.2 mN/m, and wettability is 51.4s, emulsifying capacity is 360s,foaming height is 45ml, LSDP is 10%, carbon black cloth detergency is 65.19%, protein fouling detergency is 69.42%,value of zein is 1.22g/L. Comparing with commercial AES, the synthesized AE2S showed an extremely low skin irritation and the various surface properties were significantly improved.
