Abstract: A new fluorescence probe was synthesized: coumarin-tryptophan- ester(CTE),using tryptophan as a recognition group to heavy metal ion and rhodamine as the fluorescence signal groups. The experiment results indicated that the probe shown a specific selective recognition for Cu2+ in aqueous solution with a fluorescent quenching signal. No obvious fluorescence changes were observed for CTE in the presence of other metal ions at the same concentration. Therefore, the fluorescence probe showed a selective recognition to Cu2+.
