Preparation of the recombinant mung bean LBBI and its role in protection of mice from radiation

  • Objective: To confirm whether the recombinant mung bean LBBI protein has the protective effect of anti-radiation injury for mice. Methods: 60 BALB/c mice were randomly divided into normal saline control, recombinant LBBI and, anduolin group, all of which were irradiated with 60 Co at 6.5 Gy for whole bod. Half an hour latter, the mice in every group received intravenous injection with normal saline and LBBI(50.0 mg/(kgd) )respectively, and intragastric administration with anduolin(3 g/(kgd) for first time. These treatments were carried out for every 24 h for one week. Then, the survival rate and peripheral hemogram recovery of mice were observed. Results: Compared to normal saline group, the 30 days survival rate of group mice injected with LBBI protein was increased significantly (P0.01),and its average survival time was prolonged(P0.01). We also confirmed that the number of red blood cell, white blood cells and platelets in LBBI group mice wereincreased significantly than that of normal saline group(P0.05). Conclusions: The recombinant LBBI can protect mice from radiation injury.
