Developments in the Research on Infrared Adjustable Smart Windows Based on Polymer Stabilized Cholesteric Liquid Crystal

  • Infrared (IR) adjustable smart windows based on polymer stabilized cholesteric liquid crystals (PSCLC) have a significant impact on interior energy consumption, which could be potential candidates for smart windows of automobiles and buildings for controlling interior temperatures and saving energy. The progress in the research on infrared (IR) adjustable smart windows based on PSCLC is summarized. The PSCLC smart windows can be categorized into static and dynamic infrared adjustable systems. The static PSLC smart window systems are discussed and compared in terms of the materials IR absorption or reflection. The dynamic PSCLC smart window systems are mainly discussed in terms of the dynamic tenability of electrically or thermally responsive PSCLC materials.
