The self-healing properties of finite energy Airy beams were discussed in detail, A theory of weak-diffraction beam and diffraction beam competition was put forword to explain the self-healing propagation of finite energy Airy beams. In this paper, the field evolutions of finite energy Airy beams with different initial distortions under free propagation were obtained by numerical simulation and comparative experiment.The result showed that the beams propagation with the initial main lobe distortion would be an asymptotic repair process. The greater the distortion was, the faster the restoration would be.While the beams propagation with the initial sidelobe distortion would be a repair process of energy fluctuation. The further the sidelobe blocked from the main lobe were, The more quickly the sidelobe repaired.
