Abstract
H+-pyrophosphatase is a proton pump distinguished from H+-ATPase, and exists widely in many organisms. Here we reviewed the progress on the structure and function of the vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase genes and homologous genes, and the establishment of genetic transformation system of the gene in different plants. In addition, we look forward to the prospects that the gene would be applied to genetic engineering of drought and salt tolerance of plant.
