Abstract:
To solve the problem of data transmission of lightning strike monitoring data in the fields without electric power, a wireless remote transmission system is designed. The method uses a GSM modem driven by a single-chip microcomputer (MCU). The Lightning strike recorder sends signal intensity, occuring time and counts of lightning strike to MCU. The MCU sends these data to a GSM modem. The latter sends them to the GSM modem in the control center by short messages. All lightning strike information is recorded in the center computer. All data collection devices are usually in a sleeping mode and are wakened up to work when lightning strike happens. One 6-voltage battery is used for the device. The system has been running for more than one year with good performance.
