Abstract: The recent advances on on-chip optical interconnect technologies based on the silicon platform are reviewed. Some critical components for an on-chip optical interconnect system employing wavelength division multiplexing, such as waveguides, (de)multiplexers, lasers, detectors, modulator, and switches, are introduced. Their working principles and performances are discussed and compared.
