Abstract:
Five kinds of dyes (blue, green, orange, red and yellow) were purified by column chromatography and formulated at 10% concentration using n-dodecane. The CIE chromaticity, viscosity, optical absorption curve and wettability of the dye solutions were characterized. The electro-optical performance of these dye solutions was investigated in electrowetting display devices. The green ink showed the best performance with the white area fraction of ~50% and the switching speed of 5 ms, which would be further studied for its application in electrowetting displays.
