Abstract:
Mine tailings in metal sulfide mine areas can generate and release huge amounts of acid mine drainage (AMD) containing poisonous heavy metals, and result in serious contamination of local and downstream environment of water and soils. In this paper, agricultural wastes such as corn stalk, peanut shell and straw were modified successfully to produce efficient adsorbents for the removal of heavy metal ions from AMD, and the adsorption mechanism was discussed in detail. Furthermore, adsorption technique developed based on these adsorbents was applied to the project “Dongjiang yuan mine pollution control demonstration”.
