Abstract: Based on the data of The Statistical Compilation on Higher Education Technology (20062011), the current situation of basic university research in Guangdong province is analyzed, and the results are shown as follows. The investment for basic research in higher education including funds and manpower has been increased rapidly in Guangdong province. Although the amount of paper publishing and research rewards has increased for years, Guangdong province is still at a lower ranking in research field. The research output is at a relatively low level. Other factors such as history, policy and environment also account for this situation. For these reasons, it is necessary to constantly increase investment in higher education of our province and create a favorable growth environment conditions for research. The construction of talents team should be enhanced as well.
